A 50 metre goal after the final siren by Thunder’s Damien Williams, saw the Thunder Reserves win by a point against a brave and talented Katherine Hawks in an exciting curtain raiser game on Saturday at Northline Oval, Palmerston.
The Thunder side contained seven (7) senior listed players, although all were outshone by 16 year old Districts on ball talent and recent AIS/AFL Academy selection Nakia Cockatoo. Nakia is the son of former Districts star and inaugural Crocs Premiership player Jason Cockatoo.
The exciting youngster got great support from match winner Williams returning from injury, clever Maningrida Thunder talent Jerry Wilson and rover Duncan Seden.
The unlucky Hawks took advantage of an inaccurate opposition leading until the Williams goal got the Thunder side home. The young Katherine side was led by the smooth moving utility Kayle Kossack whose older brother William starred in the main game. Defender Josh Blitner and pacey forward Clement Chulung were other standouts in an impressive team performance.
