CENTRAL AUSTRALIA IMPRESSES COACH

Category: Frontpage News, media releases

Head Coach Murray Davis takes a trip to Alice Springs to view training returning to Darwin with another Central Australian signature.

LATEST LIST CHANGES

ADDITIONS
NT Thunder head coach Murray Davis and Football Operations Officer Cameron Roberts returned from a successful visit to Alice Springs with the signature of Matthew Rosier. As part of the trip down to Alice Springs to view training and see first hand how the squad are taking shape the signature of Rosier was a bonus.

Rosier who played senior football with South Adelaide in the SANFL will return to live in Alice Springs and will be a bonus for the side with his goal kicking and defensive pressure.

Coach Murray Davis commented on what impressed him about Rosier “He’s a tackling machine, he’s quick and in today’s game a small forward that tackles with intent is an important player in any team”.

DELETIONS
Jackson Emblem will be returning back to Broadbeach where he was recruited from at the end of the 2008 season. Jackson played a handful of games with Nightcliff in the 08/09 season and went onto play 11 games with NT Thunder in 2009.

Mark Bradley who initially signed on with the club will be returning to Adelaide due to personal reasons.  Mark will return to the Ironbank Football Club where he played last season.

COACHES UPDATE by Murray Davis
The squad continues to train hard in preparation for our season opener against the Brisbane Lions on April 9th.  The Darwin based squad are in the 11th week of pre-season and have shown improvement in their overall fitness and conditioning. Marquee players like James Wray, Scott Taylor and Mitchel Taylor have shown considerable improvement in their fitness and players like Darren Ewing, Cameron Ilett & Bradley Palipuaminni who are on restricted games are balancing the commitment of NTFL football and NT Thunder well.

Add in players like Cameron Roberts, Kenrick Tyrell, Shaun Tapp, Brett Goodes (arrives 19th February) Matthew Argus (arrives 1st March) and the core of our group is looking good. Players recovering from long term and short term operations are also on the mend. These include Shannon Rusca (likely to return early May) Aaron Motlop (likely to be cleared for Round 1) Jarred Ilett (likely to be cleared for Round 1) Charlie Maher (due to return middle of year).

Our current list of contracted players stands at 35 with our average age being just over 21.

QAFL rules allow us to have a playing list of 45 with a supplementary list of 10. Our thought process is to leave spots open on the playing list to add players throughout the year. With good numbers based in Alice Springs for the Central Australia Squad and setting up satellite programs on Tiwi and in Katherine along with feedback from the Regional Development Managers the list will continue to evolve.

CENTRAL AUSTRALIAN UPDATE by Tim Lawrence
The Central Australian squad has been training since mid November and averaging 30 players per session. Training takes place 3 nights a week at Centralian Senior Secondary College. Ian McAdam and myself take the skill work and conditioning whilst Bill Henry is our strength coach. The CSSC have very kindly let us use the gym facilities and we would like to thank them for that.

I am currently in the process of meeting the CAFL coaches who have players training with us to work together and manage player workloads for everyone's benefit. We are also putting together processes to share information and continue to open communication between NT Thunder and the local coaches and clubs.

NT Thunder would like to wish all players competing in the
2009/10 NTFL finals the best of luck.
