2010 SQUAD CONTINUES TO DEVELOP

Category: Frontpage News, media releases

The NT Thunder squad for 2010 continues to take shape with the club announcing the following changes to its list.

SQUAD ADDITIONS
Kieren Smith after completing his final year of studies at Rostrevor College in Adelaide and linked with South Adelaide in the SANFL has moved back to Alice Springs .Kieren who last season took out the NT Thunder U18’s Best Team Man Award will be based in Alice Springs with a view of playing senior football with the club in 2010. Kieren originally hails from Alice Springs and has played with the Pioneers club in the CAFL.

Josh Chaplin from the Waratahs has also committed to the club for 2010.

NT Thunder coach Murray Davis said “to have Kieren return to the Territory on a full time basis supports why this club was set up.  In the case of Kieren & Josh they’ve both represented NT Thunder at a junior level and now have a terrific opportunity to play in a good competition and develop as part of the continued pathway”

Former Zillmere Eagles Captain Matty Argus (pictured below) will also be joining new recruit Shaun Tapp & his former coach in the Territory. Argus who turns 22 this year has represented QLD the last 3 years in the State Under 21 team and also played in the Eagles 2006 grand final side as an 18 year old. Held in high regard by his former coach, Argus was appointed co captain at the Zillmere Eagles in 2008 and will be a handy addition to the young NT Thunder squad with 67 senior QAFL games behind him.

SQUAD RE-SIGNINGS
Joining the club on a full time basis is former U18’s McLean Medallist, Patrick Heenan. Patrick played 5 games with the NT Thunder senior side in between juggling school commitments with Melbourne Grammar and playing in the National Championships in 2009. Heenan is in red hot form for the Tiwi Bombers and will play an integral part in their search for premiership success.

Steven May fresh from returning with a week on the Gold Coast with the new Gold Coast Football Club will also represent NT Thunder at a junior & senior level in 2010. Steven will be eligible to play in the U18 National Championships with a view of playing some Senior football throughout the year. Steven will be finishing off his final year of schooling at Melbourne Grammar.

SQUAD DELETIONS
Leaving the 2010 squad is Iain MacPherson who has been accepted into University in Melbourne. Marty Smith is returning to Perth for work & personal reasons and Dylan Kent is also returning to Victoria. Ben Ahmat is unavailable to NT Thunder preferring to play the remainder of the season in the NTFL. Ben under the 25 game rule was eligible to only play 15 games & he’s indicated that he’d like to continue playing out the season with Districts. Keegan Dingo will also be eligible to play the rest of the season with Southern Districts.  Due to a lack of attendance at training and committing to the NT Thunder club Keegan has been advised he won’t be offered a contract for season 2010.

We thank all the players for their efforts in our first season and wish them all the best.
