NEW SIGNINGS TO BENEFIT TERRITORY FOOTBALL
NT Thunder are pleased to announce two key signings in the lead up to the 2010 QAFL season, a big win for Territory football.
NT Thunder has added two quality signings to the 2010 list in Brett Goodes and James McNamee.
Brett has accepted a position with AFL Northern Territory as an Indigenous Employment Manager and Regional Development Manager for the Katherine region, whilst James will relocate from Darwin to Wadeye as the Regional Development Manager for the Daly River region.
Brett will move to the Territory middle of February and brings a strong skill set both on and off the field. For the past year Brett has worked as an Indigenous Education Manager at St Patricks College in Ballarat and his achievements on the football field have also been quite outstanding.
The younger brother of dual Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes, Brett started out with TAC Cup Club North Ballarat Rebels for 3 years before having one year with the Port Magpies in the SANFL. In 2004 he returned to North Ballarat to play in the VFL and in his 111 games he’s achieved some outstanding personal & team success.
A dual premiership player, he was named in the 2008 VFL Team of the year along with representing Victoria against South Australia in the same year. Goodes also went within 2 votes of winning the coveted Liston Medal and has been part of the North Ballarat Leadership Group the last 2 seasons. Brett also captained the Aboriginal state team and was a representative of the Aboriginal All Australian side.
NT Thunder Head Coach Murray Davis said “Brett will be a terrific leader for us on & off the field; it’s fantastic to have a quality person like Brett joining the club for the next 2 years.”
Also signing on with the club is Wanderers James McNamee. James played in the 08/09 Grand Final side for Wanderers and after returning to play & coach Dunolly in the 2009 season he’s returned to the Territory to play an integral part in the Wanderers football club for the 09/10 season. James will be based in Wadeye and will be a terrific mentor to the football people of that community.
Davis said “James has shown to me he’s got a really good understanding of the game and everything that’s involved in being successful, it’ll be a terrific opportunity for the people of Wadeye to have someone like James playing for Thunder and working within their own football competition.”
